Those Unforgettable Lights

My working holiday in the US has come to an end, but not without a 4 day scoot around New York City. So you can expect plenty pics from the trip to filter into this blog over the coming weeks! For the time being, here are some snaps from my last night in the Big Apple, when I did a twilight tour of Brooklyn, which ended with a spectacular wander over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Long exposure photography taken in a bright-lighted city may be a bit of a cliché at this stage, but you can't deny that the style helps capture the buzzing atmosphere of the location. If you've never tried this photography technique, you should try it out with your DSLR, as it's very easy and lots of fun. Simply set your camera to slow shutter speed (most of mine were exposed for 2.5 seconds), adjust the other settings accordingly, rest your camera on something steady, and take your photo.

One Day I'll Set Sail

Top: Forever 21 // Skirt: Primark // Necklace: Charlotte Russe // Shoes: Dorothy Perkins

I wore this combo to the beach, but not before wandering by the fancy boats at the bay. With all the skin on show, it is an outfit which allows for plenty of tanning. Or, in my case, frecking. After two and a half months in the sun, it looks like I'll end up back in Ireland the same shade of pasty white that I've always been, except with a sprinkling of auburn freckles. And that's fine by me. I'm not one to don fake tan, or crave the fluorescent glow of a sunbed. Nope, pale and interesting is more my style.

These days, I'm soaking up every second of the sun, regardless of my indifference towards tanning, because I only have about a week left living in Ocean City. Next on my itinerary is New York City, though, so you won't catch me complaining.

*Shout out to Michelle for helping me take the style photos.

My 2014 Summer Soundtrack

Another snapshot post, but this time with a musical twist. I've paired my pics with a personal playlist which could have easily been blaring as I had these experiences. These songs have been the soundtrack to my summer... I'm pretty sure that in a few years time, if one of these shuffles its way onto my iPod, I'll be instantly transported to this summer of 2014. Most of these photos can be found on my Instagram, so feel free to click and creep!

Roasting marshmellows by the fire on Assateague Island
The first couple of songs are quite chill, which is how we felt initially. The tunes get progressively more epic, to emulate the way that the night escalated... It ended with skinny dipping with my girlfriends! Don't be expecting an Instagram pic of that though!
'Worry', Jack Garratt
'Touch', Shura
'Waves (Robin Schulz Remix)', Mr Probz
'One day/Reckoning Song (Wankelmut Remix)', Asaf Avidan
'Sky Full of Stars', Coldplay

Sipping on rum and coke from the quirky jam-jar glasses at Pepper's
With it's low ceilings, live music, and collaged walls, this place is undeniably cool, so I chose songs to match that atmosphere.
'Stolen Dance', Milky Chance
'Never Never', SBTRKT
'Crystalised', The XX

Watching the fireworks before going clubbing for the night
Warning: this part of the mix may cause you to jump on the next plane to Ibiza.
'Liberate', Eric Prydz
'DNA (Calvin Harris Remix)', Empire of the Sun
'Won't Look Back', Duke Durmont
'You Take Me Higher', Rodgerseventytwo
'NRG', Duck Sauce
'Language', Porter Robinson

A Particular Type

It's not fun to be unwell in an unfamiliar country and this week I was unlucky enough to pick up a cold. All I wanted was my own bed and a cuppa hot choc. So clearly, I've been too busy feeling sorry for myself to put up a new post! Until now, of course. Now that I'm all rested and in good form, I thought I'd share some more Ocean City pics. This time focusing on the typography here.

I've noticed how the signs here look like they were created in another era and have never been updated. There's retro typography around every corner and I had the urge to document it.

Don't all the signs look a little old-fashioned? I like them, though! Quirky signs like these can be found dotted all around the town, and I've been enjoying collecting them in the form of snapshots.

In other news, I have a few fun activities in the pipeline - I'm hoping to make the most of this final stint in Ocean City. So do keep you eyes on this blog and, as always, I'll keep you lovely people updated.
