DIY: Cute Collage Gift Idea

Recently I complied a gift package for my friend Fiona's birthday. The present was full of small and cute items which I thought she'd appreciate, but it was still missing a personal touch. To inject a little personality into the pressie, I bought a pretty photo frame from Next and got to work on a picture to fit inside it. Rather than simply printing out a photo of the two of us, I thought I'd get creative and compile a collage to display.

The final collage

I documented the process, so here's how you can create a keepsake for a bestie.

What you'll need:

1. A photo frame
2. Card
3. Materials (magazine clippings, cute fabric, colourful card... Any pretty materials you can get your paws on)
4. Photos of you and your friend
5. Scissors
6. Glue
7. Pencil
8. Ruler

1. Mark the size of the photo frame on the card using the pencil and ruler.

2. Cut out the card so you are left with a single piece which fits into the photo frame.

3. Now comes the fun part: spread out your pretty materials and old magazines and cut out shapes to create the collage. You are looking for pretty colours to decorate your collage. Also, it's great to include some snippets which mean something to your friend. For example, I included the Tumblr, Instagram and Twitter symbols as my friend is a bit of a social-media butterfly.

4. Layout your cut-outs on the card. Play around with the layout until you are happy with it.

5. When you are content with the way you've laid it out then it's time to glue it down onto the card.

6. Once it's dry, slip your masterpiece into the frame. And... You're done! Ta-da! Now all you've got to do is find your lovely friend, give them their present and a big hug.

Okay, I'll admit, it might be a bit of a cheesy gift idea, but it's fun to make and I always think handmade gifts are sort of special. Have you ever given a DIY gift to a friend? Let me know in the comments!

Late Nights, Early Mornings

I thought I'd share a few snaps from my Ocean City adventures. It's been a hectic few weeks, with lots of late nights coupled with early mornings. Every hour is an opportunity for new memories to be made... And pics to be taken. Here's a glimpse at my time so far:

Getting up at 5am to watch the sunrise from the beach.

Rainbow vodka jelly made by my roomies.

Cocktails at a bar on the boardwalk.

My outfit for a girls' night out. Also on my Instagram.

Despite all the fun, holiday things I'm getting up to - I'm actually beginning to feel like I live here. My stay is only temporary but for now, this is my home. And I love it. Can't wait to share more of my adventures with you. As always, thanks for reading, you beauties. x

Another Summer Day, Another Summer Dress

I am sort of melting here in Ocean City (it reached 36°C here today), but that's good news because it means I can wear my pretty summer dresses. Hooray! So, last week, I dug out a sweet little Dorothy Perkins dress from my suitcase and headed over to Sunset Park to watch another sunset with my friends. We picked a slightly grey day to do it (so the sun doesn't always shine in Ocean City, who knew?) but oh well - it was still pretty. Plus, there will be plenty more sunsets on the East Coast to enjoy.

The Sunset Park at Ocean City is on the bayside, where the calm waters are... And, to our dismay, where the scary-looking horseshoe crabs dwell (shout out to Liz from Counting Magpies for warning me about those critters). We spent a while gazing at the view, chatting and being mildly horrified at the sight of the horseshoe crabs.

In other news, I'm sending out virtual hugs to all my readers, with an extra squeeze for all those on Bloglovin' because my blog reached 100 followers! Thank you for reading and commenting - I love the blogging community, you guys are lovely.

*Shout out to Eileen for taking the style photos.

Beside the Seaside

I hope you've topped up your sunblock, because this blog is about to get sunny! I arrived safely in Ocean City, Maryland on Wednesday. Since then my life has been all about the American seaside. I'm not usually a beach holiday type of girl, but so far I am loving the long days spent lounging around on the sand. It's great to be free from responsibility, with nothing to worry about, bar making sure I'm doused in factor 50. I am fairly fair-skinned after all!

Also on my Instagram

I haven't had a chance to whip out my DSLR yet so have a peek at my iPhone pics of the town, for now. I took these over the last few days as I explored the area with my travelling buddies, as well as our new roomies.

The Boardwalk of Ocean City. A long row of touristy shops next to the beach.

Underneath the pier, it's one of the roomie's favourite spots in Ocean City, so we hung out here after dark and got to know each other better.

The sun setting on the bayside.

The funfair is right by the beach, we went up on the ferris wheel to take in the view of Ocean City from above.

All these spots are only a few minutes walk away from where I'm living at the moment. Can't wait to get some more shots of the place and I'll share them soon. I must share some outfits from my summer wardrobe too!

Oakfield Park #2: Flora & a Folly

As promised, here are more photographs from my afternoon at Oakfield Park! When this post goes live I will actually be on my way to the United States! But before this blog is filled to the brim with beach and party photos, I wanted to give you another glimpse at the Irish landscape. So then, here's me on a warm Irish day, randomly chilling with the swans by the folly!

This location is so pretty, don't you think? It's definitely worth having a wander around the grounds on a sunny day, so bear it in mind if you ever visit the North West of Ireland. Anyway, be sure to share your thoughts in the comments!

*Shout out to my mum for taking the style photos.

Oakfield Park #1: A Picturesque Stroll & a Vintage Dress

I'm making the most of the gorgeous landscapes that are close to home this week. Since I'll be in the USA for the majority of the summer, I'm lapping up the Irish air while I can!

Over the weekend, I visited Oakfield Park, a gorgeous estate which happens to only be a five minute drive away from my house. Even though it's so near to me, I had never visited it until now. I knew that it was there, but I had no idea that it was this beautiful... So beautiful, in fact, that I took too many photos to fit comfortably in one blog post, so look out for update two soon. Just a glimpse at the above photo will show you why I was so trigger happy: it's just so pretty.

For my stroll around the grounds, I needed to wear something comfortable because the grounds are quite big. So I wore this vintage dress, which I bagged at a vintage clothing kilo sale a while ago.

Dress: Vintage (Shutterbug Kilo Sale) // Belt: Vintage // Bracelet: New Look
I love this tree! I think it looks like it could be part of a set for a Tim Burton film. It's so creepy and mysterious.

Hope you got your fix of pretty pictures from this post! Stay tuned for the second installment on this blog. As always, do comment with your thoughts, I love to read them!
